After over ten years of occupancy, PPCW’s current Beaverton location was ready for a full renovation. Due to their growth in patient numbers the biggest needs were better traffic flow and upgraded security along with a much needed ‘face lift’.

Clear and consistent communication for next step planning as well as organization of the internal PPCW team, of multiple departments, was key to successfully completing this phased construction plan while staying open during normal business hours. Special attention was given to the temporary and final security and IT needs, and vendors managed independently,  as entrances and check in/out stations changed throughout the phases.

Working hand in hand with the contractor, Designer and clinic staff we were able to complete the renovation with as little impact as possible on the day to day patient experience. Over the course of the 6 month renovation along with construction “discoveries”, plan changes and some hard decisions, we stayed right on the $580K budget.

Best learning opportunity: There is one vendor in the US that makes a door that is both ballistic and fire rated … and they take 12 weeks to get. =/

Any hat I need to wear: Ghost Investigator. During renovation we were using a storage room in a close by building. Every time I went past a certain threshold I would get the willies. One of the contractors even came running out with goosebumps on his arms also claiming he felt something that he couldn't see.

Funniest story: watching a conservative retired cop accidentally pick up a poster of detailed female anatomy.
